Some sad news today, as Benjamin lost his battle in the wee hours of the morning. He will be missed, but some things are just not meant to be.
Mama Dots was a little worried and searching for him for a bit this morning, but has settled down and is back to being just an amazing mom to the fab five pups.
Big day today with their first toenail trim. All were absolute angels - and I don't say that lightly, as I've had some pups that are really hard to do toenail trims on.
Still mostly in the sleeping and eating phase, but eyes should be opening soon, and then the real fun will begin.
Lots of pics to update with over the last 2 or 3 days, so here we go:

Oh, no! Poor Benjamin! I'm so sorry to hear that. All the other pups are just so cute. I find myself jealous of their deep milk comas!

DeleteI'm trying to keep a stiff upper lip about Benjamin, or any pup we lose...especially knowing that the 'average' breeder loses around 30% of their pups...and knowing that we have been so incredibly lucky to have lost so, so few through the years...but tears still are shed for him. Losing any of them is still a heartbreak, and especially after you think you might be able to save them...but I wouldn't trade my 11 days with him for all the world; where there is life, we must always try.
I can't even imagine losing a pup like that. I have to believe nature knows best, but it can't ever be easy. Thank you for all the care you took with him. At least he knew love every single day of his life!

DeleteSo sorry about Benjamin, you were very caring with him!
ReplyDeleteJen, puppy prayers for Benjamin! We all know how hard it is to lose one but know your bond is extra special bringing this little soul into the world. So glad to see the other teenie weenies thriving and growing. Love looking at all their spots and coloring!

Thanks, Shelby! Losing any of them is just the worst. :( But so glad the rest are such chubbers and thriving. :)
